Georgia Theatre - We Can Rebuild It, We Have The Technology

"We finally have some progress to report. It was quite a struggle to get all the necessary permits and approvals, but our plans are incredible, our team is assembled, and we are excited to be moving forward.

Georgia Theatre Construction

We hope to be completed with construction and back to the business of putting on concerts by early spring of next year. The rebuilt Georgia Theatre will have the same look and feel as it always did. As a matter of fact, from the outside it will be hard to tell any difference at all."

O'Brien's show will start in November at 11 p.m. George Lopez, the comedian who currently occupies that slot, will have his show move to midnight.

Smoke On The Water, Fire In The Theatre

From OA
"Fire this morning heavily damaged the historic Georgia Theatre in downtown Athens, shrouding the central business district in smoke and knocking out electric and cell phone service to the area. Wilmot Greene, the building owner, said the building is a total loss but exterior walls are "probably alright." Green said he hopes to rebuild and he does have insurance. Greene has already talked with organizers of AthFest about holding AthFest events in the Classic Center or at Legion Field." (read more)

The Recession Vs. Sunday Blue Laws

From Time.com
"A handful of state legislatures have declared it's closing time for Sunday alcohol sales restrictions, saying an extra day of sales could give their foundering budgets a much-needed shot of revenue. Those states — Georgia, Connecticut, Texas, Alabama and Minnesota — enjoy overwhelming voter support for an extra day of sales, but face opposition from members of the Christian right, who say that selling on Sunday undermines safety and tears apart families. "During times of economic stress, our families are under enough pressure," says Jim Beck, the president of the Georgia Christian Coalition. "I don't think we need to add even more pressure to those families by passing this law.""

We might be able to buy alcohol on Sundays. What? We can already buy booze at restaurants on Sunday? Everyone panic!

Fox'z Closed. Will Reopen as The Office?

(From our forums)
"Rumor has it (and I have an inside source) that Foxz Tavern is no more.  The new owners, Brigitte and Spayd, will be continuing the fine establishment under a new name, The Office.  My source tells me that they plan to open in about 6 weeks."

I can confirm that the Fox'z sign has been removed from Homewood Hills. You can read more about what happened here. If you are feeling nostalgic visit our Fox'z gallery.

Video Of The Superbowl Porn

"Tucson, Arizona was probably not the best place to watch the game last night. Partly because of the disappointing result, but mostly because of the huge, flapping penis.

With under three minutes left and just after Larry Fitzgerald's heroic comeback(ish) touchdown for the Cardinals, the video feed abruptly switched to a scene from stablemate channel Club Jenna, treating viewers to the sight of seemingly omnipresent porn guy Evan Stone swinging his junk around like a maniac. This interlude lasted about 30 seconds."
